About Injury Compensation Scotland

Published by Rooney Family Law Limited, regulated by the Law Society of Scotland. Responsible solicitor: Brian Rooney. Last reviewed 21st September 2026.

Injury Compensation Scotland is run by Rooney Family Law Limited, a firm of Scottish solicitors regulated by the Law Society of Scotland. The solicitor responsible for the service is Brian Rooney, the firm's founding partner. We assess injury enquiries free of charge and, with your consent, refer them to a specialist Scottish personal injury firm, which decides whether to take the case on and then runs it.

Who runs this service

Rooney Family Law Limited is a Scottish law firm regulated by the Law Society of Scotland. It is registered in Scotland under company number SC555767 (Companies House record), and its head office is at 2 Candymill Lane, Hamilton ML3 0FD. The firm's main practice is family law, and it operates across Scotland. Injury Compensation Scotland is the name under which the firm takes and assesses personal injury enquiries.

The solicitor responsible

Brian Rooney is the founding partner of Rooney Family Law Limited. He is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in family law. That accreditation is in family law, not personal injury. He is trained in collaborative law and is a notary public. He is responsible for this service and supervises the assessment of every enquiry we receive. You can check that he holds a current practising certificate using the Law Society of Scotland's Find a Solicitor directory.

Brian is not a personal injury specialist, and we do not claim that he is. That is why we do not run injury claims ourselves. Our job is to give you an initial screening view from a regulated Scottish solicitor and, where the claim is one a specialist is likely to take on, to put you in touch with a firm that does this work as its main business. That firm, not us, advises you on the value of your claim and conducts it.

What we do and do not do

We read what you tell us, check for any conflict of interest, and tell you whether we think a specialist firm is likely to take your claim on, and why. With your consent, we then refer it to one firm. We do not negotiate with insurers, value your claim or go to court for you. Sending us an enquiry does not stop the three-year time limit running, and you remain responsible for making sure a court action is started in time. Our how we work and what it costs page explains each step in more detail.

How the guides on this site are written

The guides on this site were written for this service and checked against the Scottish legislation, court rules and published guidance listed under "Sources for this page" at the foot of each guide. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. Brian Rooney is responsible for their content, and they are reviewed again when the law changes. The guides explain the law in general terms and are not advice on your own situation. If you think anything on this site is wrong or out of date, please tell us at [email protected].

How we are paid

You pay us nothing. If the specialist firm takes your case on, it pays us a referral payment out of the fee it earns. Under our agreement with the firm, that payment must not increase the success fee you are charged. You may instruct any solicitor you wish, and you are never required to use a firm we suggest.

Regulation and complaints

Rooney Family Law Limited is regulated by the Law Society of Scotland. If you are unhappy with the service we have given you, our complaints procedure explains what to do. You may also be able to take a complaint to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission.
